The Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church Worldwide, Prophet Solomon Alao, has said the farmers. Herdsmen clashes that have continued to ravage the country can only be stopped if President Muhammadu Buhari discourages pastoral farming.
If the Federal Government failed to discourage pastoral farming, the C&S leader warned that farmers, herders clashes would continue.
Alao stated this at a press conference to announce the church’s annual general conference, scheduled to hold between January 28 to January 31 at the C&S Ministry, Elebu, Ibadan.
The leader, who noted that the destruction of farmlands by the herders was not what was bargained for when President Buhari was elected, said the act had become unbearable for the farmers.
He said, “All is not well with our country politically, socially, economically and security-wise. The insecurity in the land is becoming worrisome by the day and the frequent clash between the herders and farmers will continue if the Federal Government fails to discourage pastoral farming. If other countries are promoting ranches, we have no reason as the leader of the continent to encourage herders to have unfettered opportunity to destroy other people farms.
“For enduring peace, what we need is a restructuring of the current political systems; Mr President would be well-advised not to ignore increasing demand for a restructuring of our political system because time is not much on our side to avoid Soviet Union experience.”
The church leader, who also faulted the continuous registration for the National Identity Number amid the COVID-19 pandemic, urged the Federal Government to suspend the registration till the curve was flattened or create more registration centres.
Alao had earlier asked President Buhari to see to the restructuring of the country, as he blamed the country’s economic challenges on the present political arrangement.
In his New Year message on Monday, the cleric also called for improved security and a quick solution to the perennial power problem in the country.
In the message, titled, ‘Corruption: C & S leader urges politicians, judges to declare assets biannually’, Alao also said the President must lead other politicians and workers in the justice sector to publicly declare their assets every two years if Nigeria is to be rid of corruption.
“I hope the President will not fail to do this because if Nigeria does not move to kill corruption, it will kill this country,” he added.
The cleric stated further, “I want to urge the President to restructure the country in such a way that we go back to the model given to us by our founding fathers. When a child thinks he is wiser than his parents, there is bound to be problems. Let us go back to regional or zonal federalism.”
The cleric called on the government to install Closed Circuit Television cameras at strategic points, adding that the President should review the security architecture to stop “incessant killings, kidnapping and wanton destruction of properties that many Nigerians experienced in the year 2020.”
