We read with interests, the story published by @seraphstories on the interview by Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo with Pastor Poju Oyemade, and we cannot hold back the need to react to the comment by Pastor Ashimolowo as it touches on the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church.
To start with, it is our belief that the church, irrespective of denominations, is one body in Christ; therefore, any utterance or action which may bring discord within the body of Christ should be jettisoned. It is a fact that a weapon usually employed by satan to sway believers from their common purpose, is disunity. When the body of Christ starts to segregate and discriminate against one another, it definitely creates a crack for the devil to sneak in, with its attendant consequences.
While the Corinthians may be excused for alleging that some of them belong to Paul, or to Apollos, or to Cephas, and some other to Christ; it is expected that as students and doers of the word of God or “Scholars of the Bible” (as some pride themselves in), that we would have learnt and imbibed the admonitions of Apostle Paul to the Corinthians.
The Bible in Romans 12:10 encourages Christians to love one another with brotherly affection. To outdo one another in showing HONOUR (not employing disparaging words or unjustifiable criticism). So rather than pride ourselves in the rivalry, division and superiority of one denomination over another, let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding as written in the Book of Roman’s 14:19.
Be that as it may, our stance is unwavering that the C&S Church, is one rooted in Christ, with a difference that we enjoy limitless Grace of God as He reveals Himself to us whenever we are in His presence.
The C&S Church is known for REVELATION and DIVINE HEALING, just as other denominations are known for one thing/gift or the other. This is a special Grace which we enjoy from God as the SALVATION of souls is the main foundation for any and every body of Christ. The fact that we understand the usefulness of the word of God in addressing situations of life, including but not limited to the book of Psalms, cannot be a basis for bias against the church. Maybe one can reason that Pastor Ashimolowo did not outright condemn the C&S Church as he merely stated in his response to the question about the use of Psalms in prayers “but not how the Cherubim and Seraphim use it”. As simple as the statement seems, it is loaded with meanings and the connotation is that the use which the C&S puts the book of Psalms to, is not in conformity with the word of God since believers generally are expected to act according to the word of God! In Philosophical parlance, that statement would have been categorised as “fallacy of hasty generalisation or hasty conclusion”. It is to this extent, that we condemn the insinuations posed by the comment in question, made by Pastor Ashimolowo.
Just by way of emphasis, it should be noted that the C&S Church is firmly rooted in Christ with and its doctrines are biblical. Our Apostles teach the tenets or principles of Salvation; our Pastors provide spiritual leadership and guidance to members; our Evangelists proclaim the gospel of Christ to the rich and the poor without discrimination, and our Prophets are always in contact with God and delivering divine messages to the Church. We extend the love of Christ to all and sundry and we fellowship and reckon with all known body of Christ. So, be it the book of Psalms, Isaiah, Revelation or Romans, they are given to the church for edification and for bringing glory to God.
And just for the records, it is beyond dispute that the C&S church was founded in the year 1925 (even Google can confirm this) as opposed to the statement that it came about during the revival of Joseph AyodeleBabalola in 1930.
